a dark thread from white

    Hola:

    Estoy empezando un libro y en las tres primeras líneas me encuentro con a dark thread of white, ¿sabe alguien qué significa esto?

    Five a.m. Too early to eat. There is hardly any light, perhaps just enough to distinguis a dark thread of white, but Kawsar washes her face in the basin inside her bathroom, runs an caday over her teeth and slips...

    Según lo que entiendo, hay justo lo bastante luz como para distinguir un hilo blanco que parece oscuro por la falta de luz.

    I think the author probably speaks a dialect of English in which 'of' can replace 'from', so I'd say this:

    Is that any better?
