A decisão do Major era um prego

Hi, I'm trying to translate the following sentence from São Bernado.

"O Major decidia, niguém apelava. A decisão do Major era um prego".

The context is that everyone did exactly what the Major said and when he made a decision, everyone respected it. How would you translate it?

I believe "prego" (nail, literally) means here something that cannot be changed, that is very rooted, fixed, pre-determined.
"The Major decided, nobody contested. The Major's decision was always the final one"
