a dictionary entry

How do we read out loud an entry from a dictionary?
For example:
crosswalk noun (count) US : a marked path where people can safely walk across a street or road.

Should we put a determiner in front or should we treat it like a word as it is, a set of letters, (sounds)?
Should we say,
A crosswalk is a marked path, OR
Crosswalk is a marked path?

If the listener knows you're reading out from a dictionary, I suggest just reading out those words as they are, with a pause after crosswalk, noun, countable and US.
