a dig of pressure

From a fantasy novel:

A young woman meets a god and asks him for help. He agrees to help but wants something in return (he doesn't want to say what it will be, though). He looks deep into her eyes and into her soul. The gaze is so intense that she feels "it knocks something loose far down inside".

The next sentence is the following: "My breath catches on a dig of pressure, and the sensation abates."

Does it mean that she "holds her breath/gasps" or "suddenly takes a deep breath" or perhaps something else?
