Bonjour tout le monde, Can someone help me translate this sentence: "As if on cue, a book dived off the shelves and fell to the floor a few rows back." (The Keeper, Darragh Martin, 2013, p.110) For the context, the main character is in a library with so many books that he asks himself how it can hold anything more. This sentence comes right after. => "[...]un livre plongea hors des étagères et tomba sur le sol quelques rangées *en arrière*. What I don't understand is the meaning of "a few rows back" in this context. I don't really see the movement of the book: is it just falling on the floor or does it go further away from the shelves? Merci d'avance ! Moderator note: Translation shortened to focus on your question. We do not proofread whole sentences in this forum.
