On seeing Mother's angry expression, I knew a fierce lecture was waiting for me.




Does the underlined part sound right and good to you? If not, how would you express the idea? Thanks.

    Yes, I presume it means "a fierce scolding." I wonder if "a fierce lecture" is Chinglish.
    I love that word Chinglish - it's the first time I've heard it!
    I'd say a fierce lecture has a slightly different connotation - an older child, or an adult may get the lecture, while a small child may get the scolding. There is not much difference in meaning overall.
