a fine colour on his brown cheek

"Hurrah, for Ed Devlin!" and a general shout greeted a sweet-faced lad wth a laugh on his lips, a fine colour on his brown cheek, and a gay word for every girl he passed.

Please, explain to me what the text in bold means. Thank you :)

If it's still snowing in the story, I would think it meant his cheeks are pink from the cold, but that he is a healthy brown colour normally - meaning that he plays outside and gets tanned in the winter, and he isn't weak or pale.

    Hi majlo,

What an odd sentence, I imagine it is an old one!

His cheeks was a normal/healthy color, is probably how you would hear it said today, as was suggested.

    Hope that helps,
