Hi everybody, I'm working with an excerpt from an article & I don't understand what does this expression mean.

For 50 years we Democracts created a better future for our children, using traditional democratic principles as a fixed bacon, giving us direction and purpose, but constantly innovating, adapting to new realities.

    Un poco tarde, pero yo sugeriría traducirlo como un faro / guía inamovible (retomando la sugerencia de Agró, pero con una pequeña adición por lo de fixed).
