Hi,
In case your car gets totaled, and only a fraction of it gets salvaged [[during {OptionValue}]] , this plan insures you are paid either the purchase value of your car, or the value of a brand new replacement model (which is lower).

What the meaning please of this part of the phrase "only a fraction of it gets salvaged"?
Source: Policy Insurance

Thanks,

You found the word 'totaled' in an insurance policy document? I'm astounded.
My experience with cars is either it is salvaged or it is not, so I don't understand the context. It seems more applicable to cargo.
