Dear all,

He rarely makes a bad decision. I think he's a good thinker.

I made up the sentence to try to use "a good thinker."
Is it different from "smart"?

I would appreciate any comments.

"Smart" means different things to different people. Some people might consider a person smart for (1)having learned many facts. Some people might consider a person smart for (2)being very perceptive in social situations. Some people might consider a person smart for (3)being very good at logic and reasoning.

The phrase "a good thinker" is not likely to come up in standard English but I think it would be understood as number 3.
