A great deal of

Hi, every time I come across the expression "a great deal of" I translate it into French with "beaucoup de" which I suspect being a bit informal (language populaire). I wonder if natives can correct me if my suspicion is wrong and, if not, suggest another translation a little more "soutenu".

Merci d'avance.

Well, you may also use "un grand nombre de", and so many further synonyms. :)

Merci Ella, donc je vais me contenter de "beaucoup de". As for my question, I always prefer to check with a natives when I doubt something and it always works. And don't be surprised a Morrocan can't speak French as good as a French, you may notice that if you visit Morocco plus I am more an anglophone than a franco. Anyway, thanks a lot.
