a happy little soul

What does "little soul" mean?

Like her, I’ve always been a happy little soul and never one to complain or feel sorry for myself. I wasn’t brought up to be miserable and realized early on that complaining never solved anything.

Thanks for providing the definition. Is little a term of endearment in this example? I don't think it's to do with young age or physical features.

Little is a term of endearment, but "little soul" is also somewhat humble. If you said it about someone else it could easily sound patronising.

I can't imagine a happy braggart saying that they were "a happy little soul".
