Hi!

I can't understand the last sentence of this dialogue! Please help!

These are parents talking about a nerdy kid. Mexican Spanish.

"Debería estar en la calle echando desmadre con los morros."
"Verás cuando entre a la escuela."
"Acuérdate de mí. Lo van a madrear macizo. Yo a huevo que me lo hubieran madreado."

    • There's not a lot of context to know whether the parent who says "a huevo" is in favor of the beatings the kid will receive, or not. Which parent is it? Is it their kid? Is this is an exchange between Person A and Person B, and they are taking turns speaking?

    "Acuérdate de mí. Lo van a madrear macizo. Yo a huevo que me lo hubieran madreado." says the Dad, smiling.

    It could've been that the transcription is wrong too. The Dad is a kind dude, if a bit naughty.

    This blog post claims that "a huevo" can mean "hacerlo a fuerzas" - Poner a huevo...

    Even so I don't get it.

    Yes, it's their kid. The dialogue in more detail, above.
     
    "A huevo" está en el diccionario de WR: hell yes, hell yeah (vulgar, México).

    "Madrear" está en el diccionario de la ASALE:
    II.1.tr. Mx. Dar una paliza. pop.

    El único error notorio está en la conjugación del verbo, ya que es primera persona singular (yo):
    "Yo a huevo me lo hubiera madreado".

    Es decir, si yo, cuando era niño, hubiese sido compañero de clase del chico, por supuesto que me lo hubiera madreado.

    I do not understand the sentence as it stands, it makes no sense. According to the witktionary, a huevo can mean: 1.- for sure, without any doubt, 2.- forcefully, 3.- without difficulty, and 4.- cheap. The best I can think of is that it means de seguro in the given sentence, and I would assume that it means A mí de seguro ya me habrían madreado (si fuese como él). I cannot be sure, though, the sentence structure is too weird to me.

    Sometimes it means "whether I want to/like it or not" which possibly lends to the OP. It would be best if we could have a Mexican Spanish speaker chime in as it is very common in Mexican usage.

    If 'hubieran' is the correct transcription, it may be something like "I would definitely have preferred for him to have been beaten up". Or more informal: "Hell, yeah, he shoulda gotten beaten up".

    These are Mexican slang terms.
    • echar desmadre: literally means "roughhousing" or "making a mess", it is a "popular term" for "having fun"
    • morro = boy; morra = girl
    • madrear = beat up
    • macizo = hard
    • a huevo = for sure, certainly, without a doubt, as well as "wether you like it or not"
    • The pronominal "yo me lo hubiera" is a way of emphasizing that this is something that I would do myself
    "Debería estar en la calle echando desmadre con los morros."
    (He should be on the street having fun with the boys)
    "Verás cuando entre a la escuela."
    (You'll see when he starts school)
    "Acuérdate de mí. Lo van a madrear macizo. Yo a huevo que me lo hubieran madreado.
    [Remember me (meaning remember what I am telling you). They are going to beat him up hard. I would certainly beat him up] Meaning that "If I was one of the kids on the street, I certainly would beat him up"

    Please notice that there is a lack of agreement between Yo (first person singular) and hubieran (third person plural).
    I would believe there is a mistake and the correct sentence should be "Yo a huevo que me lo hubiera madreado"
