Hello,

Another excerpt from an employee's workplace complaint:

Voltak tanúi a jogsértésnek?
Igen

A jelenlegi dolgozók kikérdezése az ügyben

I'm bewildered by the highlighted sentence, because I don't understand how it is a response to the preceding question.

Is it saying,

"Current employees have been questioned about this matter [and they corroborate what I am saying]"?
or
"Current employees are being questioned about the matter"?
or
"You should question current employees about the matter [because they will back up my story]"?

or something else?

Thanks again for your time,
Gavril

  • Reading a bit further in this file, one learns that other employees have allegedly spoken up about the issue in question.

This suggests that the quoted sentence

A jelenlegi dolgozók kikérdezése az ügyben

should be interpreted to mean something like

"Current employees have been questioned about this matter (and they corroborate what I am saying)"

If we assume that the above interpretation is right:
Would it match any familiar patterns/tendencies in Hungarian?
E.g. would it be normal for a form like kikérdezése to be used this way?

    Thanks again,
    Gavril

I have more of a problem with the "jelenlegi dolgozók" (than with kikérdezése because if there is or has been an investigation, it could certainly involve questioning other workers)... because, strictly meaning, it suggests that the "workers who are employed at the moment".
It may mean that a) among the other workers who were witnesses some don't work there anymore (so not available for questioning) b) the word "jelenlegi" (more or less = "at present") is not in its right place in the expression. It may refer to the questioning that is underway.
I wonder if the whole thing is not the result of Google Translate...
