Hi,

I'm not sure whether to put commas in my (own) sentence or not:

It is alleged that a Linc Energy plant, which was shut in 2013, had caused a fire that led to the pollution of 320 square kilometres of land with carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and hydrogen sulphide.

The information about shutting the plant is only an unnecessary addition, so I guess it means obligatory commas?

The commas make sense, Leafka. The information about when the plant was shut is nonessential information, and it is normal to use commas around a nonessential clause in a sentence.
