    My hint is that what does not work in your attempt is not 'throughout' but 'these', maybe 'throughout the last century/100 years', more formal than other expressions...

    I agree with consultative, but "these" would sound somewhat natural with "last" added.

    Over these last 100 years...
    Throughout these last 100 years...

    Another very natural way to word this is: For over a hundred years / century...
