Hi,
what is the meaning of the bolded word?
Economic power, however, did not change hands in 1994. As a result , the cost of the years of conflict will be paid for a long time yet - ....
Thank in advance.

    From the O.E.D.:
    5. In reference to future time (see also 2 c, 3 c).
    a. At some time in the future (usually implying ‘though not hitherto’); hereafter; at length, ultimately, before all is over; often with mixture of sense 9 (‘after all’).
