Which sentence sounds better, 1 or 2? Thanks.

    Neither sentence sounds right.
    Both quote a single birth rate and make no reference to previous rates.
    To use trend, you have to be talking about a change over time.

    What if I make a bit change and rewrite them as the following: Taiwan is experiencing a new trend of a low birth rate with an average of 1.1 children per couple.
