Can you say 'A man's beliefs'? Can you use indefinite article 'a' in this sense?

For example:

A man's beliefs can cause a lot of damage...

    Yes, you can certainly say that, and use "a" that way:
    A woman's allure can sometimes overcome a man's beliefs.

    I'm not sure why you think you should not say that.
    Just to be clear, the article applies to the man, not to the beliefs.
    You're talking about "the beliefs of a man".
