A menos que limpies tu cuarto no puedes salir con tus amigos

In the below phrase:

A menos que limpies tu cuarto no puedes salir con tus amigos

I understand why the subjunctive is used for "limpiar". However, shouldn't we also use the subjunctive for "poder". I.e. shouldn't the phrase read instead:

A menos que limpies tu cuarto no puedas salir con tus amigos

    a menos que is what requires the subjunctive here, if I'm not mistaken. This sentence has two clauses: 1) a menos que limpies tu cuarto and 2) no puedes salir con tus amigos. The subjunctive is only used in the clause which is dependent on the expression warranting it (I think some people can put this in better words than me).
