What do we mean when we use the phrase "a nod to the past".
I tried to look it up in the dictionary but it doesn't have.
I've heard it quite a lot but I'm not so sure its meaning.
Anyone help me please.

Well, actually, it means that we acknowledge the past. When you nod to someone on the street, you are acknowledging them. It's the same thing in this context.
