Bonjour, quelqu'un peut il m'aider à traduire l'expression suivante :

Ramesh offered a pat on the back

A vegetarian himself, Ramesh offered a pat on the back for non-beef eaters, saying they help in “climate mitigation.”
“The single-most important cause of [carbon] emissions is eating beef,”

"a pat on the back", c'est un "coup de pouce"
Is it really? In all the translations given here coup de pouce a "pat on the back" is not one of them.

A "coup de pouce" seems to be an action taken before or during someone else's action.
Whereas a "pat on the back" is congratulatory; it takes place after the action is accomplished.

Thanks in advance for your help.

No, it isn't and you are right.
If you give someone a coup de pouce, you are helping them out.

A pat on the back as in the original post: Ramesh a félicité ceux qui ne mangent pas de boeuf...
(il a donné une petite tape d'encouragement dans le dos à ceux qui... ?)

His year-end bonus was a pat on the back for his hard work that year.
Sa prime de fin d'année fut une tape dans le dos pour tout son travail cette année.
