Hi,
The context sentence is from Mutiny On The Bounty by John Boyne. My question is, what does it commonly mean by " a pot taken off the boil", i.e. the pot taken away from fire just before the water or coffee is boiled or it is taken away as soon as it is boiled?
Context
‘I haven’t a mind to listen to your nonsense,’ he said finally, simmering slowly like a pot taken off the boil.
