I was reading an article about the 2005 success story of the pop rock band The Arctic Monkeys and I just met some misterious "A&R men" in these sentences:

Some A&R men were turned away from their sold-out gigs at first. Finally, though, with big offers being tabled by the majors, they signed with Domino.

I suppose there are something like people in charge of finding new artists for the majors, but I'm not sure (and very curious about the meaning of this A and this R).

Can someone say me what are they ?

It is actually the acronym for artist and repertoire.(the division of a record label that is responsible for scouting and developing talent)

thanks for the acronym finder (immedialtly bookmarked) and the wikipedia reference.
