How would you say that? Would you say <A> ''R'' or <An> ''R''?
I would say An R

It is the initial sound of the following word, and not its spelling, that determines whether to use "a" or "an."
Phonetically, the letter "r" is pronounced "are," so it would be "an 'R.'"
