What is a 'red-eye flight'?

Un 'vol de nuit' en avion ? (où on a les yeux rouges à l'arrivée, de n'avoir pas bien dormi ?)

Merci pour vos remarques :)

You guessed it, xtra. Often it's even shortened to simply 'red-eye'. "I'm catching the red-eye from LA tonight so I should be able to make the lunch meeting in New York tomorrow."

    Thank you very much :)

So, it's not so much a night flight per se as a flight arriving early morning (there is a slight difference in meaning).

Correct. It implies a night flight during which most people would be sleeping, or trying to, with an early-morning arrival.

Also, it seems to me most often used as slang among frequent business travelers referring to routes often traveled. For example, someone in the US who is not a frequent flyer and who is flying to France for a vacation would not likely say, "I'm catching the red-eye to Paris."
