A robot car will not get distracted by someone waving across the road

In Ready for First I read the following sentence:
A robot car will not get distracted by someone waving across the road
I understand the sentence but I have problems with the preposition across.
I guess it means that there is a person crossing (going from one side to the other) the street and waving.
Am I right?
