    Hello, how would we say ' a sense of what to make of things'? The sentence is 'people turn to local newspapers for a sense of what to make of things'

    My attempt. 'Des personnes se tournent vers des journaux locaux pour un compréhension des événements'

    I suggest:

    Les gens lisent / se mettent à lire les journaux locaux pour se faire une idée de ce qui se passe / de ce qui est en train de se passer.

    Using "Des personnes" emphasizes that not all of them do. This is not what you mean. You're speaking generally.
