    I don't know quite how to take this "solid", as applied to a novel:confused:. My first thought was that it is one of those 600-page efforts that have the shape and weight of a brick. To me it doesn't sound all that inviting or exciting.

    Still, I found this in an American dictionary:

    Slang Excellent; first-rate.
