Hi there. I was reading a book and found this sentence "... at other times it is miniaturized and alluring, a-spin and shining in its orbit."
What does a-spin mean? I can't find it anywhere...

Sorry, the book is Girl Interrupted and the whole sentence is "Sometimes the world you came from looks huge and menacing, quivering like a vast pile of jelly; at other times it is miniaturized and alluring, a-spin and shinning in its orbit.”

It means that it is in the process of spinning (similar to the way that an object that is "adrift" is in the process of drifting).
