(1) A wife who really loved him would make concessions.
[From a grammar book for Japanese high school students. (emphasis mine)]

(2) A wife would make concessions if she really loved him.

Question: Is it possible to rephrase (1) as (2)?

It’s sort-of OK as a paraphrase, but it reads oddly with “a wife” as the subject.

The point of the original – “If he had a wife who really loved him, she would…” – is lost.
