Hello,

I'd like to know a word for describing a day in a timetable when there is no class so you don't go to school.

Thank you in advance.

We didn't have these when I was at school, but the equivalent in a college/university (a day when you don't have any lectures) I'd probably call in BE a "free day".

    Hello,

    Thank you for your responses.
How about 'a day off'? Can I use a 'day off' or 'class-off day' instead?

A day off would more likely be an unscheduled day without lessons, e.g. if an extremely important (and popular) person was getting married on that day.

Where I live, one of the local schools sometimes closes for a day while the teachers attend courses, etc. This is called an "inset day". In other areas, the terminology may be different.

Yes, a "day off" in the context of school would probably be taken in BE to mean a holiday, which is different from a regular day when you don't have any lessons timetabled.
