Hello,

Do we say:

1) "she abandons her baby on the street"
or

2) "she abandons her baby to the streets"

Thanks!

Sentence 1) sounds normal in BE. We use to the streets in expressions like they took to the streets to demonstrate.

I would not use to the streets, although it seems to be used in AE.

    Hello E2efour,

Shall I put "street" on the plural form? "She abandons her baby on the streets"?

It seems that this sentence has so many declensions, like "he was abandoned IN the streets at birth". What is the difference between in/on/to?

I would prefer street for a baby. But if it were a dog, I might use streets since it could wander about several streets.

If you are evicted from where you are living, you would be put out on the street.
