Abgeschlossen Vs. geschlossen

1."Die Tür ist nicht abgeschlossen"

2."Die Apotheke ist geschlossen"

How do I know when to use abgeschlossen instead of geschlossen?

    "abgeschlossen" or "verschlossen" usually means "locked":
    Die Tür ist abgeschlossen = The door is locked.

    "geschlossen" means "closed":
    Die Tür ist geschlossen = The door is closed.
    In this case we don't know whether it is locked or not.

    In case of shops we normally use "geschlossen" if we want to say that it's currently closed, e.g. for a lunch break.
