About heavy as

hamlet

Hello,
I recently read the phrase: "[Box A] was about heavy as [box B]". I was wondering, isn't there an "as" missing? Shouldn't it be "about as heavy as" or does it sound natural that way to your ears?

Thanks

Where did you read it? (Source) If it was dialogue in a novel, for example, it's possible the character speaks this way. But I agree that in standard English you need "as heavy as."

It was just descriptive, no character speaking, in a magazine article. Maybe it's not 'correct' but is it idiomatic? Would you use it at times?
