About how much longer is the wingspan of a female bald eagle
than a male bald eagle?

My attempt:

If I may say so, I think it should be '...than that of a male...

Ya I agree, it's just that it's a test for 7/8 year olds, (and written by Americans) so probably not quite as formal. As for the French part...I've never seen "d'a" haha, I was thinking to myself "de combien" also, just wasn't sure. thought "envergure" was m., I see now.

Thanks

than that of a male bald eagle?

On a déjà peiné dans ce forum sur "how much + superlatif + than"

Elle est plus longue de x pouces = it is longer by x inches

(In my opinion, AlistairC, it's not less formal, it's plain ungrammatical )

Yes, that is probably true I just copied and pasted out of a test booklet. Were I teaching it in English, I'd change it.

"d'à" results from the elision of the e in "de à"
Example: les gens d'à côté ; Au pub d'à côté

How much etc. would be De combien.
Since you added About, it becomes D'à peu près combien or D'environ combien.

envergure nf

Traduction is feminine as well -> c'est la moins compliquée

PS: I don't think you have to teach a language to correct mistakes and typos: do it for your readers' sake!
