A man walks by another seated.

"He pauses above me".

Pour rendre "above me", à part une périphrase lourde ("il me domine de sa haute taille"), je peine.

    Can you say il se dresse devant moi here, or would that give the (incorrect) impression that he wasn't standing before?

    Is the nuance essential? After all, the reader knows that one person is standing and the other is seated. Could you just say il s'arrête devant moi?
