Could you please explain the sentences below in simple English to me?
can't understand what is that mean

"Her absorption in an abstract if genuine cause had dulled in her the sense of motherhood that first had drawn her to the cause"

    The odd but still worthwhile cause that she was very focussed on had made the feeling of motherhood get less, even though this is what had made her interested in the cause in the first place.
