Accompany his wife to the premiere

Good afternoon,

I have a question regarding this text (page 3): "Love and admiration and respect"

It says: that the two tickets set aside for the playwright on opening nights were usually given to me, so that I could accompany his wife Agnes Boulton, to the premiere, and after the performance go to their hotel apartment to report the event.

Did the playwright tell the narrator to accompany his wife, since it seems that he also told him to come to their hotel and report the event?

Thanks in advance!

    Here is the actual sentence:

The customary two tickets set aside for the playwright on opening nights were usually given to me, so that I could accompany his then wife, Agnes Boulton, to the premiere, and after the performance to go to their hotel apartment to report the event.

It was presumably the playwright who made this arrangement, but the sentence doesn't explicitly say so.

Thank you very much. Yes, I was wondering if he was the one who arranged all that.

Thank you both for your replies.
