Accused of

Hi all,

How do you colloquially say that someone was “accused of” something?

Like:
- He was accused of being a Communist (and executed)
- He was accused of fraud.
- he was accused of poisoning the president.

The dictionary tells me: 被指控⋯ But this seems very 書面 to me?

The best thing I can come up with is: 他被誤認成共匪 (sorry this probably isn’t the politically correct term!) and I feel like there is a more fitting way to translate this idea.

Any help is appreciated!

In the active voice, you may say:

    - His critics accused his work of lacking in realism.
    - They openly accused her of dishonesty.
    - You can’t accuse me of being selfish.

But in the passive voice, choices seem to be somehow limited:

    - A man accused of murder has been remanded in custody for a month.
    - He was accused of being a Communist (and executed)
(Or in colloquial speech, where we don't usually use so big a word as "accuse" "被控": 他被说成/被怀疑是共产党,给咔嚓了 :D)
    - He was accused of fraud.
    - He was accused of poisoning the president.

Edit: 误认成 is good too, if the accusation was false (误)!

    For politically related contexts,
    For legislation related contexts,
