Acronym from/of/to/for

Hi, everybody!

I was wondering what would be the right preposition to follow acronym.

FBI is the acronym of/for/to/from Federal Bureau of Investigation.

    I think "for" is the most common.

    Exceptionally, if you were explaining how a certain abbreviation or acronym was formed, you might choose to use "from" instead.

    For example, quango is formed from quasi-autonomous non-governmental organization.

    FBI is the acronym to Federal Bureau of Investigation. :cross:
