Hola a todos

Estoy leyendo una novela escrita por Arturo Pérez-Reverte que se llama "Hombres Buenos". Es excelente, pero me encuentro buscando muchas palabras (que de hecho me encanta).

Hay una frase que quisiera traducir bien. Capto el sentido más o menos, pero no estoy seguro como se diría en inglés. Me gustaría que me ayudasen.

"-Prosiga, don Justo -ruega el driector, acudiendo donoso al quite."

La oración viene justo depués de que alguien ha interrumpido a este don Justo con un comentario incitador. Entiendo que el director está tratando de mantener la calma.

¿Será algo así?

"'Please continue, don Justo,' begs the director, gracefully dowsing the flames"

    It's something like "(executing) a graceful parry", but I can't see how to get in into the sentence.

    Perhaps "to head off", except that then you'd need to mention the thing being headed off.

    Well, yes, it is a graceful parry, intended, as Warren understands, to appease the contenders.
