admitted to <injuring / injure> patients

Hi. Can anyone tell me why cant I use “injure” in this sentence?
—> They found that one-fifth admitted to “injuring” patients due to tiredness.

    It's because the phrase 'admit to' needs to be followed by a noun or a gerund. You admit to something or you admit to doing something.

    Don't make the mistake of thinking that the word 'to' is always accompanied by the infinitive.
