adult / adult person

I wonder if the words 'an adult person' can be used when one means 'an adult.'

e.g. when you describe a photo: In the photo I can see one adult person and a few teenagers.

To me it sounds too formal, but maybe it's OK. What do you think?

I have looked for this way of describing an adult in dictionaries and online and I haven't found too many examples.

I have found the noun 'adult persons' here: 'Teaching adult persons to read.'
A Method of Teaching Adult Persons to Read,

I'd appreciate your comments.
