I have great affect for my dog.

How common/correct is the use of the word affect as a noun in this sentence. If it is correct, what does it mean?

I'm Sorry. I was confused by a reply I received in another thread. You are absolutely correct; it should be affection. I withdraw the question if there is no further interest in the subject.
