Hello to all,

I want to suggest that your age can determine how effectively you can learn a new language. Is the usage of determinant correct here? :

The process of language learning is quite complicated and can be impacted by different factors. Age is a predominant determinant in learning a language and achieving fluency.

That may well be correct, grammatically, but it's rotten style. Two principles:
    • Avoid long words when short ones are as good: two 4-syllable words together confuses your message.
    • Avoid unwanted rhymes if they distract from your meaning.
A predominant factor, perhaps, or a major determinant.
