aguardiente de caña

I have a recipe for Christmas punch that requires "aguardiente de caña." I've read in previous threads that aguardiente is either brandy or liquor in general, but "de caña" sounds like rum. At least, I've never heard of brandy made of sugar cane, and I'm not familiar with other liqours that are. Can anyone tell me whether aguardiente de caña is rum or something else? Thanks!
