Ah, por fin ya estás; yo te esperaba.

    Is the choice of esperaba correct from a Spanish speaker's point of view. In English, I would instinctively use I have been waiting for you.

    "Por fin llegaste. Te estaba esperando"

    I wouldn't say "te esperaba".

    I would, I would, but then again, I'm not a native Spanish speaker:eek:.

    But in that case (esperaba), it would rather suggest the meaning "I was expecting you", although not necessarily.

    Hace 10 minutos que te estaba esperando = past progressive
    Hacía 10 minutos que te esperaba en el mismo punto= imperfect past ( durative action)

    Ah, por fin estás. Te esperaba.


    El esperaba me parece bien, el estás (así solito) me choca un poco.

    Diría "ah, por fin estás" si estuve intentando localizarlo por teléfono y finalmente lo logré. Pero si estuve esperando en un lugar, creo que diría "ah, por fin estás acá, te esperaba".
