The sentence I am trying to translate reads:

Parfois, des fantasmes venaient aider à ce soulagement, il s'agissait de représentations extrement floues de suicide.

The narrator is talking about the physical release she feels after a great emotional crisis, a sense of no longer wanting to struggle, of being prepared to submit to the world. So her fantasies of suicide - could it be? - conspire with this? Does anyone recognise this use of aider à used with a noun?

    Many thanks.

    French - France
"aider à" is close to "favoriser", "contribuer à" etc. So maybe to contribute to?

Yes of course, that's much better, thank you.
