aim in/from a lying position

Senior Member
Hi there,

Is the preposition "in" used when you do something "in" a position? To make things clearer, can I aim a gun in a lying position, or is from possible here?
This is my conext:

"Even if using a stand, their guns with large calibres were not precise enough, so they usually aimed at the game in/from a lying position."

Thanks a lot!

If I was aiming, I'd do it "from" a position. I'm not sure why, perhaps it something to do with whether or not it's a transitive verb. Someone help me out? :)
